Today, BMW has three plug-in hybrid cars and another with the BMW i sub-brand, the i8. They also have the all-electric i3 but there are lots more in the works, including the BMW 7-Series iPerformance plug-in hybrid.
In celebration of these cars, the company’s support of Formula E and the forthcoming race in Germany, BMWi is proud to sponsor the Berlin ePrix in round eight of the 2015/16 Formula E calendar, on 21st May 2016.
For the first time, this year’s Berlin ePrix will take place in the heart of the capital city, rather than the previously used Tempelhof airport track of 2015. The new track winds its way around Strausberger Platz, towards Alexanderplatz along Karl-Marx-Allee. The race will be officially titled the, “2016 FIA Formula E BMW i Berlin ePrix”
Sam Piccione III, Chief Revenue Officer at Formula E, said:
“It’s fantastic news that BMW i has put its name to the Berlin ePrix for the first running of Formula E on the streets of the German capital. Germany is a key player in the production and manufacturing of electric vehicles which is shown in BMW’s role as the Official Vehicle Partner of the championship. The backdrop of the race in Berlin will make for a truly spectacular event, especially with the continued support of BMW.”
Joerg Reimann, Vice President BMW Brand Experience, said:
“As a pioneer in the field of electric mobility, we know that we must forge new paths, while at the same time remaining true to our fundamental values. As title sponsor of the 2016 FIA Formula E BMW i Berlin ePrix, we now have another opportunity to do just this with BMW i, in addition to our existing partnership as Official Vehicle Partner. BMW i and Formula E are very well suited to one another. We are delighted to be prominently represented with BMW i at the race weekend in the German capital.”
