London ePrix 2016: What you need to know

The London ePrix is back for its second and final time at Battersea Park. Following a convoluted court battle to keep the race in the park, the FIA and Formula E organisers finally succumbed to the wants of certain residents and conceded that they will not attempt to hold the event at Battersea Park in the future, post 2016.

Like last year, the capital will play host to the final two races of the season, which will once again mean the title winner is anything but obvious. Lucas di Grassi leads the current driver standings with 141 points, followed by Sébastien Buemi with 140…

Toyota & Lexus Recall Some Hybrids Over Safety Fears

Toyota and Lexus will conduct a recall involving certain Toyota Prius, Auris and Lexus CT200h models which affects 72,885 vehicles in the UK. The subject vehicles are equipped with an evaporative fuel emissions control unit (canister) mounted in the fuel tank. There is a possibility that cracks could develop in the coating of the emissions channel due to improper shaping of portions of the channel. As a result of this condition, the cracks could expand over time and, eventually, fuel may leak from these cracks when the vehicle has a full tank of petrol.

Living the High Leaf – Long Term Update

One week into Leaf ownership and the car has already proved a more than useful tool. Of course, being accustomed the ways of an EV and familiar with charging helps but it doesn’t take anything away from the fact that electric cars just work.

So far, 136.3 miles into my time with the Leaf and my total expenditure on “fuel” has been a mere £1.35. Why? That’s because I’ve only charged the Leaf up once at home and that means it’s working out as roughly 1p/mile travelled. This impressive figure is, of course, only…

Nissan LEAF 30kWh Tekna - Long Term Test 2016 | AutoVolt

Turning over a new Leaf – Long Term Update

Our Nissan Leaf long term test car has arrived, hurrah! The Leaf will be my daily driver over the next few months and I intend to fully capitalise on its electric efficiency. OY16XLO is a 30kWh Tekna, meaning it has the largest battery currently offered by Nissan and the highest level of equipment too – thank you Nissan! Official range is estimated at 155 miles (NEDC) but, as is true for all electric cars currently, true range is lower. The 100% fully charged Leaf shows 111 miles range currently and as weather conditions are favourable, this is likely to be about right and accurate. However, because OY16XLO isn’t a new…

Swedish Citizens Create Own Electric Car Charging Infrastructure

Every other Swede thinks shortage of charging points is a major obstacle to driving electric cars, according to a new survey. More than half of all Swedes are willing to offer up charging points in their homes. Just as many think politicians are not doing enough to reach the goal of fossil free cars by 2030. This is the reason to Renault’s new initiative Elbnb – a nationwide social marketplace where anyone can share their electricity and create change…

Nissan announces development of world’s first SOFC-powered vehicle system that runs on bio-ethanol electric power

Nissan Unveils Solid Oxide Fuel-Cell Electric Vehicle System that Runs on Bio-Ethanol

Back in the 1960’s, future depictions of the world were forecast with cars running on jet power, water or assorted powerplants – anything but petrol or diesel engines. This type of forward thinking – and dreaming – has led to some amazing advances over time, but to date there has been little impact or change to our reliance on petrol and diesel engines. Electric cars are the latest alternative energy to oppose the fossil fuel regime and with them are coming innovative new ways of thinking once more…

Tesla Model S 60 Announcement

New Smaller Battery Tesla Model S 60 and 60D Revealed

Tesla has introduced a new cheaper version of the Model S, the Model S 60 and 60D. The chief component that has been cheapened is the battery, which has been electronically limited to 60kWh. Likewise, the price has also diminished to £53,400 or from £410 a month.

The new model replaces the 70D that became available in April 2015 and it must be said that when compared to the 60 and 60D, it seems that the 70D was better value, as it provided more range for just a few thousand pounds more…
