Santa Claus has seemingly begun taking delivery of the new Cadillac ELR Extended Range Electric Vehicle, or E-REV. In all seriousness, what the picture actually depicts is the start of dealership deliveries of the ELR across America.
Cadillac claims the ELR luxury coupe is the first application of Extended Range Electric Vehicle technology by a full-line luxury automotive brand, that is if you exclude the Chevrolet Volt and Vauxhall Ampera upon which the ELR is based and the BMW i3 with Range Extender which although small, is definitely a luxury car.
The ELR’s driving range, which combines battery-only electric power with a petrol-powered electric generator provides a total driving range exceeding 300 miles (480 km). Cadillac reiterates that most peoples daily commutes will require no fuel expenditure, instead solely relying on the battery charge before the range-extender engine has kicked in, therefore emitting no tailpipe emissions.
